Kaitlyn's birth story is amazing. I wish every woman can have such an amazing and easy birth. I'll start the story.
The Dr. scheduled my induction for 01-11-10. He believed that I would have the baby before that since I had been fully effaced and dilated to a 4 since thanksgiving. This had us both worried. The Dr had me take it easy so that the baby could make it closer to her due date.
Nick and I arrived at the hospital at 7am. Filled out all the paperwork and then were put in my birthing suite at 7:40am.
The very nice nurse hooked me up to pitocin and checked me (4cm) at about 8am . Nick and I started watching tv and set in for the wait, cause you never know how long it will take.
The Dr came to visit at 8:30am checked me (I was at a 4 1/2) and to break my water. That is always icky but exciting. Nick and I then watched more tv, trying to find something to pass the time. The nurse told me that the anesthesiologist was about a half hour away so I would need to let them know when I wanted my epidural 30 min before I needed it.
At about 11:30 I was starting to hurt so I told the nurse that it was time for the epidural, she checked me and I was at 5cm.
About 11:50 the anesthesiologist came in. Between contractions I got my epidural.
With my other labors I progress really fast after I get my epidural. Usually having my babys within the hour. I think this happens because I relax. I told this to the anesthesiologist. He said that would be nice and said he would come back to check on me in 10 min to see if I need and adjustment. He had to leave fast because the lady nextdoor needed him. This was at about 12pm.
I laid back in the bed and tried to relax but I started to have this strange pain in my left leg. Nick helped me to roll onto my side. But the pain wouldn't go away. I figured that the epidural wasn't getting there and that all I needed to do was wait a bit longer. Nick insisted that I call the nurse and tell her what was going on. I did what he said and the nurse came in. She said she would check me. The nurse said "oh that's why, she's crowning". That's what the odd pain in my leg was. It's a good thing I listened to my husband.
The nurse called in other nurses and the doctor. I was told not to push, they wouldent even let me sit up. The doctor rushed to get his scrubs on and the nurses rushed to get all the baby equipment ready.
The doctor said "I guess she's ready. You have two choices. One, you can give one small push or just let her come out on her own."
I laughed and she was out. Still can't believe I laughed my baby out. She was perfect! The nurse told me that she has never given a baby a perfect apgar score but she gave one to Kaitlyn.
I went from 5cm to complete in less than 15 minutes. The anesthesiologist came back in to check on me to find I'd already had the baby. He said "wow that was fast". I told him I would go fast. I just didn't know it would be that fast. I guess Kaitlyn was ready to be out.
Now at that time she wasn't Kaitlyn. We hadn't decided on a name just yet. You see with Nick and I if we pick a name before the baby is born we are almost guaranteed not to use that name. Going into the hospital the name we had picked was Vitoria. This name means victorious. We were "victorious" at having a girl. We also loved Fiona. Because of Shrek everyone who hears the name thinks of a green ogre but we picked it because of the kick ass character on Burn Notice. Fiona is a strong, beautiful woman, just like we want our daughter to be. We also loved the names Kaitlyn and Makayla. We were leaning towards Vitoria because it was different and meaningful. The problem was that after holding my baby I couldn't give such a tiny thing a name like that, it just didn't fit.
It was so much fun watching my boys with their new sister.

She climbs everything.
Since that day we have had so much fun. Everyone told me how different a girl was going to be but I didn't thing it would be this different. If something spills she will run to get a towel and clean it up. She helps with chores. Kaitlyn is so smart. She loves shoes and dresses herself.
I am so grateful to have her in my life. I sure do love my Kaitlyn.
